“A series of four heads confront the visitor at the entrance to the gallery. The heads are quirky, even almost menacingly direct realizations of the artist's vision. They are constructed as copper masks with cobalt-blue glass elements outlining the features. Generally, they look like primitive art, and they have some of the power and strangeness of some African art. Yet, and this is kind of wonderful, they express a single sensibility, one very much to be watched in the years to come. Mr. Shepherd is an artist in the fullest sense of the word, and this reviewer wouldn't be surprised if he were soon recognized as a major figure in the field of glass working.” –John Caldwell, The New York Times, Sunday, September 26, 1982
