1970-1984 | Glass–Wire Mesh
“Mr. Shepherd's heads are blown inside, then outside, of bland steel-wire facial masks... The blowing expands the wire mask, creating lifelike, pleading eyes and mouths that seem to be trying to tell us something. These are blue, green, or red glass heads of and for the imagination — compelling modern icons.” –Paul Hollister, The New York Times, Thursday, July 2, 1981. Review of exhibition at the Heller Gallery, 965 Madison Avenue, New York.
